GEE GEE ROSELL — beloved owner of Buxton Village Books on North Carolina’s Outer Banks for nearly 42 years, following a decade working for the National Park Service — passed away January 29, 2026.
Gee Gee was a warm, caring friend to readers, authors, publishers, vacationers, visitors, fellow booksellers, and countless friends. She was also an extraordinary community advocate, supporting school reading programs, civic organizations, the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, conservation efforts, and many other local groups. And she quietly helped countless individuals — from islanders facing hard times or needing encouragement, to aspiring authors who may never have been published without her guidance. Oh, and she built much of her bookstore. Literally. To say she will be missed hardly captures the affection and gratitude felt by the tens of thousands whose lives she touched over the decades.
BEACH GLASS BOOKS, with contributions from dozens of Gee Gee’s family members, friends, community members, authors, photographers, booksellers, and other supporters, has prepared a commemorative book celebrating her life. Assembled by author Ray McAllister, the book not only honors Gee Gee’s remarkable and inspiring legacy but also will help support students in her name.
THE GEE GEE BOOK Published May 26, 2026.
